Auctions: a German Landknecht's dagger
This German Landknecht’s dagger, dated ca. 1540/50, was one of the lots at the autumn auction of Antique Arms and Armour from all over the world by German auction house Hermann Historica, which was held on 11 October.

The catalogue description is as follows:
“Slender double-edged blade of diamond section, flattened central ridge and robust ricasso with two fullers. The quillons bent towards the blade, the exterior of the iron shell-guard decorated with a riveted ornamental mask and engravings. Distinctly conical, leather-covered grip with iron ferrules and grip straps of twisted wire. Heavily domed iron grip cap with chased floral décor, surrounded by a fine iron wire spiral. Associated sheet iron scabbard, on the obverse a chased portrayal of the goddess Fortuna surmounted by Adam and Eve. Robust ornamental bands of iron wire spirals. Chased globular terminal with fine baluster pommel. Inserted bodkin, probably unassociated, by-knife missing. The reverse with two angular clasps. Length 40 cm. Rare, finely crafted German Renaissance dagger in good condition.”
